Congratulations on your impending graduation from Westwood High School and the IB Diploma Program! We hope that you have had a meaningful academic exploration, and that your hard work and diligence has helped you identify and define your interests and goals. We wish you great success in college and beyond!
All the graduating IB seniors have been asked to fill out a survey by Ms. Childress and the IBPA. It is required by Ms. Childress. It will facilitate her being able to contact all the Class of 2020 students about their diplomas and scores when she receives them and also to invite them to the Diploma Reception if and when that takes place. It also helps her to gather feedback on the various aspects of the Westwood iB program and experience and facilitates statistical data collection by the IBPA to share with the IB community. Parents of Class of 2020 are requested to encourage their student to fill out the survey.
It has also been posted on their Google classroom as a required item by Ms. Childress.
Keep informed on upcoming events, WHS IBDP news, volunteer opportunities and more!
The data collected through our membership form will be used solely for WHS IBDP and IBPA purposes. Your data will never be sold or shared with third parties unless they are contracted for specific services by WHS IBPA.
2020 IBPA Exemplar Scholar Announcement
Congratulations to Anaita Merchant on being selected as the 2020 IB Exemplar Scholar! As only the third recipient of this award, Anaita is helping to establish the tradition of honoring a student who exemplifies the IB mission of "Education for a Better World".
Among many notable accomplishments, Anaita is the CEO of of a 45-member, all-girls FIRST Robotics Competition team called The Lady Cans. Her interest in STEM and robotics, in particular, also exposed her to the prevalent gender disparity in these areas. This led to the birth of her IB CAS project - a Women in STEM Career Fair. Her goal was to encourage young girls to pursue science and technology and to provide them with strong role models by introducing them to women with successful careers in STEM. She recruited over 20 women to introduce 400 girls to many STEM-related disciplines, from Mechanical Engineering to Pediatric Endocrinology. Since the gender gap disproportionately impacts girls in low income neighborhoods, she held her event at Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy, an economically disadvantaged middle school in Austin. The event was a great success in exposing the young girls to STEM mentors and leaders who looked like them and help spark interest in STEM and related careers.
Anaita plans to study Mechanical Engineering at UT Austin, and hopes to continue her advocacy for girls in STEM and help bring about gender parity in these fields, in the next stage of her life and beyond.
On behalf of the entire WHS IBPA Community, the Scholarship Selection Committee congratulates Anaita, her family and her teachers. Thank you for fully embodying the IB mission and being an example to all.
